Skolaro

Overview

Skolaro is a complete school management system used by educators, students and parents. Contrive Solutions built it from scratch in Laravel and has worked with the Skolaro team for more than 7 years. The platform now has 1.5 million active users.

What the client needed

Skolaro wanted one system to run a school’s work and give its community a private place to collaborate. It had to keep school data secure, find records quickly as the user base grew, and let new modules plug in without rebuilding the core. Outside developers also needed a clean way to connect their own tools.

What we built

• Private social platform for schools: a secure space where teachers, students and parents communicate inside their own school.
• School management modules: the day-to-day management features, built on an architecture that lets new modules be added quickly.
• Fast search: a Sphinx search layer so users find people, classes and records fast, even with a large data set.
• REST API: a public API so external developers can build on top of Skolaro.

Tech stack

• Back end: PHP and Laravel
• Database: MySQL
• Search: Sphinx, kept separate from the main database so heavy searching doesn’t slow the app
• Caching: Memcached for frequently read data
• Integrations: REST API for third-party developers

• 1.5 million active users
